Mirza Al Helli and Sons B.S.C. ©, It started with the retail sector under the name Aswaq Al Helli in 1999. Now, under the name of Al Helli Supermarket, it is one of the largest retail supermarkets and is considered one of the most successful economic institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain, having a total of 11 branches in various regions of Bahrain.

Our History

The company was established in the year 1975 as a grocery shop by Haji Mirza Al Helli, founder of Mirza Al Helli and Sons B.S.C. ©, In 1993, the company was ambitious to expand in the retail field and open more retail outlets in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In 1999, the company achieved its first target by opening its first branch of Aswaq Al Helli Supermarket on Budaiya Road with an area of 1000 sq. m., which contains the latest display in refrigeration units to meet its consumer demands and offers a variety of goods and services with competitive prices and exclusive offers. The development did not stop at this point; in 2003, the branch was expanded by 500 sq. m. and the number of staff reached 60.

With the increase in business activity in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Haji Mirza Al Helli decided to change the legal identity from a sole proprietorship to a company with limited liability and worked to open more neighborhood branches for Aswaq Al Helli. In 2006, the second branch of Aswaq Al Helli was opened in Tubli, and in 2008, the third branch was opened in A’ali with an area of 3000 sq. m.

As part of its expanding strategy in the retail industry, the company opened a new distribution company under the name of Atayeb Trading B.S.C. (C). This new division was able to establish trading business relations between the company and many countries from different parts of the world. Atayeb Trading B.S.C. (C) has a warehouse capacity of 60 containers, about 40 CUFT each. The warehouse has a repacking factory for sugar packing. Atayeb Trading B.S.C. (C)’s total employees are 21.

The company is now in the process of building a new warehouse with an area of 3500 SQM that is able to accommodate 120 containers of 40 CUFT each. This warehouse is located at Salman Industrial City in Hidd.

In 2012, Mirza AL Helli and Sons B.S.C. (C) opened a first-class restaurant on Budaiya Highway under the name of Atayeb Restaurant B.S.C. (C), which can accommodate 150 guests and offers a variety of dishes such as Arabic, Indian, Italian, and other international dishes. In 2013, the company changed its legal status to become Bahrain Shareholding Company (Closed) to develop its managerial and operational processes. The company owns a stake in Bahrain Asmak Company B.S.C. (C). “We aim for the new generation who will take over the management of the company in the future to work with a clear guideline and strategy ruled by laws and regulations, and we definitely will encourage them as our father encouraged us in the beginning.” – Shaker Mirza Al Helli, Chairman, and CEO.

Mirza Al Helli B.S.C. (C) operates by centralizing human resources, accounts and finances, information technology, maintenance, business development, procurement, and marketing departments. The company plans to open more branches in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is a representative agent of many international brands in FMCG and has had a sustainable business relationship for more than 20 years with many business partners such as Abu Dawood Al Saffar, Unilever Bahrain, Saleh Al Saleh, Abdul Lateef Al Aujan, and many others.

It sponsors several university students every year. It also gives priority to employing Bahrainis of both genders and participates in creating professionals in the retail industry. Out of its 250 employees, around 60% are Bahrainis.

The company has taken the lead in sending its Bahraini employees to the Tamkeen CPP Program to improve their skills, performance, and productivity.

The company was rewarded by the Bahrain Specific Council for Vocational Training for participating efficiently in sending its employees to training courses. Aswaq Al Helli bears economic and social responsibility.
